ABOUT MALIK AHMAD

Listening to Students & Families. Representing our Communities. Supporting Student Success.

I am a graduate of Computer Engineering Technology from Seneca College and studied Business Technology Management at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). I am a small business owner (IT Consulting Services), and founder of the International Indian Film Festival Toronto, community volunteer and longtime advocate for families and community organizations. I am seeking to serve as TDSB Trustee for Ward 10 because I believe our students, families and school communities deserve a thoughtful, accessible and accountable voice at the Board table.

My connection to education is personal. Living with and supporting children with different learning and support needs has given me an appreciation for the realities many families experience as they navigate the education system. I understand that every child is different, and that sometimes families need additional information, guidance, accommodations or support to help their children succeed.

My belief is that no child should feel overlooked or unheard. Families should know where to turn when they have questions or concerns, and their experiences should be part of the conversation when the Board considers policies, programs, priorities and resources.

I also bring experience in community service and public engagement. I have previously sought elected office in our community and have organized and supported major fundraising initiatives for SickKids, Scarborough Hospital Foundation, UNICEF and other charitable organizations. These experiences have taught me to listen to different perspectives, bring people together and remain focused on the needs of the community.

MY PRIORITIES

Focused on what matters to students, families and schools.

01

Student and Staff Well-Being

Support learning environments where students feel safe, respected and included, while recognizing the important role educators and staff play in student success.

02

Students with Diverse Learning and Support Needs

Listen to families and educators about the challenges students face and advocate at the Board level for equitable access to appropriate supports, accommodations and programs.

03

Responsible and Equitable Use of Resources

Support thoughtful decisions about programs, services and resources, with student needs, school-community realities and responsible stewardship of public funds in mind.

04

Safe and Welcoming Schools

Support policies and Board priorities that promote the physical, emotional and psychological safety of students and staff.

05

Addressing Racism, Discrimination and Hate

Every student should feel that they belong. I will support the Board's efforts to create inclusive school environments where concerns about racism, discrimination and hate are taken seriously.

06

Supporting Newcomer Families

Help ensure families who are new to Toronto can access clear information about the education system, available programs and services, and how they can participate in their children's education.

Listening to Ward 10 School Communities

Every school has its own strengths, challenges and priorities. I will listen to students, parents and caregivers, educators, staff and community members and bring those perspectives forward in the appropriate Board forums.

A Trustee Who Listens and Works Collaboratively

I believe a trustee's role is to listen, represent, ask questions, advocate and work collaboratively.

A trustee does not replace the work of teachers, principals, school staff or TDSB administration. Those professionals have important responsibilities and expertise. My role would be to bring the perspective of Ward 10 students, families and communities to the Board, participate constructively in governance and policy discussions, and advocate for students and families while respecting the responsibilities of TDSB staff.

I want to be an accessible and accountable representative who takes concerns seriously, helps residents understand the appropriate channels for addressing them, and brings broader community issues to the Board when they require governance-level attention.

Our schools are at the heart of our communities. My commitment is to listen carefully, understand the issues facing our school communities, and represent Ward 10 thoughtfully and constructively at the TDSB.

OCTOBER 26
